The Beate Naroska Guest Professorship programme, established by the Cluster of Excellence Quantum Universe in honour of the late physics professor Beate Naroska, awards a senior and a junior guest professorship each year to two outstanding female scientists. The professorship recognises excellence in one of the research areas of the Quantum Universe Cluster and contributions to diversity and equity in science.
Since 2020, the Cluster of Excellence Quantum Universe has awarded the guest professorships. This year, it announces Prof. Dr. Silvia Pascoli as the senior guest professor and Dr. Chayanit Asawatangtrakuldee as the junior guest professor. The two scientists are invited to Hamburg for a stay of up to six months and will be awarded 7,500€ (senior) and 5,000€ (junior).
Since 2020, Silvia Pascoli has been a full professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, and has previously held the positions of deputy director of the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology and full professor in physics at Durham University, UK. Her area of expertise is particle and astroparticle theory, in particular neutrino physics and physics beyond the standard model.
Chayanit Asawatangtrakuldee, now an assistant professor in the Department of Physics at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, has had a long-standing collaboration with the DESY-CMS group, including a postdoctoral stay at DESY between 2016 and 2018. Her research focuses on the search for an extended Higgs sector at the LHC, in particular additional Higgs bosons produced in association with the decay of b quarks.
The award ceremony will be held on Thursday, 25th June 2026, at 16:00 at the CSSB lecture hall, Campus Bahrenfeld, and the event is open to the public. We look forward to welcoming both Silvia Pascoli and Chayanit Asawatangtrakuldee.
Please join us for the award ceremony on-site or online. More information can be found on indico.
Beate Naroska
Beate Naroska (1943-2008) was an excellent scientist and a devoted teacher and mentor of many young researchers. She was a professor in experimental particle physics at the Universität Hamburg from 1989 to 2008. She made pivotal contributions to a wide range of questions in particle physics at DESY and CERN using data from the ISR, PETRA and HERA accelerators.
