Gender Equity

Gender equity and diversity in science are essential aspects of fostering innovation, creativity, and inclusivity in research and education. Diverse perspectives play a crucial role in problem-solving and advancing knowledge across disciplines. Despite this, women and non-binary individuals have historically been underrepresented in many scientific fields, leading to a lack of diverse voices and ideas.

Our efforts to promote gender equity and diversity at Quantum Universe include targeted recruitment, a joint mentoring program and more offers that create a supportive environment for women and underrepresented groups. With this commitment to diversity, we hope to strengthen the scientific community and help to challenge stereotypes and biases, paving the way for a more equitable academic landscape.

Beate Naroska Guest Professorship

This guest professorship has been established to honour Beate Naroska, a professor in experimental particle physics at the University of Hamburg from 1989 to 2008. It is awarded annually to two successful female scientists who distinguish themselves not only by their excellent research in our field but also by their commitment to gender equity and diversity in science.

dynaMENT - Mentoring for women* in natural sciences

The program offers confidential one-to-one sessions with an experienced mentor over a period of 12 months (doctorate) / 24 months (advanced). It supports the researchers to plan their individual career in science through workshops, peer mentoring and networking offers. dynaMENT is a joint project of DESY and MIN faculty of Universität Hamburg, supported by the two clusters of excellence “CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter” and “Quantum Universe”.

Academic Career Toolkit - designed for female scientists

The Academic Career Toolkit offers a series of workshops to support female scientists in their career management. The workshops address advanced Postdocs that already have academic leadership responsibilities or seek such a position in the nearer future (Juniorprofessors, “Habilitandinnen”, junior research group leaders and postdocs with several years of experience).

Women's Career Day

The Women's Career Day is an annual format which provides female PhD students and Postdocs with knowledge in the areas of career management in various workshops. At the same time, the two-day event gives participants the opportunity to discuss gender equality issues that can emerge in a career as a scientist and a chance for networking.

Science and beλond — LGBTIQA* Network at UHH

LGBTIQA* stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and Asexual. If you are part of the community or would like to show your support as an ally, you are invited to join UHH's Science and beλond – the LGBTQIA* network. The network hosts regular social events, informative impulses, empowerment and awareness workshops.
