David Jaklitsch, originally from Bogotá, Colombia, completed his master in Mathematical Physics at Universität Hamburg in September 2020. The title of his thesis was “Towards an equivariant Morita theory for graded tensor categories.”
What is the topic of your research?
Currently, I am working in the group of Algebra, Number Theory and Mathematical Physics under the supervision of Professor Christoph Schweigert and co-supervision of Professor César Galindo, Humboldt Fellow in the group of Christoph Schweigert. The research problem we are addressing is to understand what kind of algebraic structure is required for the construction of an invariant (topological field theory) for non-oriented manifolds, and in a second step to formulate how the construction can be done from this input data.
What fascinates you about your research focus?
I am truly interested in algebraic structures and their interaction with mathematical physics. The theory of tensor categories provides a mathematical framework to formalize topological quantum field theory and reciprocally, the interest in the study of TFTs enhances the development of representation theory. This synergy between different fields is what I find the most exciting about my research focus.
What do you like about the cluster Quantum Universe?
Definitely the Quantum Universe Research School. It’s a wonderful place to expand your scientific horizon. Within the cluster there is a wide range of research topics. Events such as the Quantum Universe days provide a space to get to know what other people in the cluster are working on and explore new research directions that interest you but maybe were not considering so far.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I am a fan of mixed martial arts. In my free time, I practice boxing myself. I also enjoy to dance salsa and to play Starcraft, and I have a diverse music taste ranging from Punk, Rock’n’Roll, Techno and Drum’n’Bass.
