Support & Counselling
Studying or working at the university are not always free of conflict. Please do not hesitate to seek counselling and support in the event of incidents that are not in line with our mission statement diversity! This applies in particular if you are personally affected by microaggressions, sexualised harassment, racial discrimination, bullying or other disparaging behaviour by others.
Various contact persons in the MIN Dean's Office, in the departments and in the Presidential Administration of Universität Hamburg are available for a confidential discussion:
Contact persons for students
the Equal Opportunity Officers in the departments and Clusters of Excellence
the Equal Opportunities Team of the MIN Faculty (Dean's Office)
the study offices of the MIN faculty
the student councils and, if applicable, the awareness teams of the faculties
Contact and advice centre for sexualised harassment, discrimination and violence
Online contact form for sexualised harassment, discrimination and violence for students (anonymous possible)
Contact persons for employees and superiors
the Equal Opportunities Officers in the faculties and Clusters of Excellence
the Equal Opportunities Team of the MIN Faculty (Dean's Office)
the department heads and departmental advisors
contact person for sexualised discrimination and harassment at Universität Hamburg
All of these contact persons will make time for you and treat the contents of the conversation confidentially. The aim is to improve the situation immediately, clarify what has happened and initiate measures to protect you from similar situations in the future.
You should also seek advice and support if you would like to reflect on a situation during the conversation. Sometimes it can be helpful to gain certainty about your own perceptions by going through and categorising the situation together. In general, however, any act that is perceived as an assault must be considered and clarified as such - regardless of the intention behind it.
For a legal assessment of cases of sexualised discrimination, harassment and violence, you can also contact the complaints office under the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) in addition to the social counselling service and take further steps there if necessary.
Since December 2021, UHH has had an updated Directive for Protection against Sexual Discrimination, Harassment, and Violence at Universität Hamburg (within KUS portal). This directive is intended to raise awareness and highlight measures for prevention and procedures for intervention.
